Story:

Super Mario Super Show:

Each episode consisted of live-action segments starring WWF/E Hall of Famer Capt. Lou Albano as Mario and Danny Wells as Luigi a special guest, either as themselves or a character for the segments. The remainder of the program was dedicated to animated stories of Super Mario Bros., starring the voices of Albano and Wells in their respective roles alongside Jeannie Elias, John Stocker and Harvey Atkin.

Super Mario Bros 3:

Unlike its predecessor, the series dropped the use of live-action segments, Wart's minions and King Koopa's alter-egos, featured an entirely new cast with the exceptions of John Stocker and Harvey Atkin, who reprised their respective roles as Toad and King Koopa, established a level of continuity in stories, and featured the introduction of a set of characters called the Koopalings, based upon the same characters from the Mario games but with different names to their official counterparts. Episodes were divided into two segments of around 11 minutes each, always opened by a title card featuring world-map footage taken from Super Mario Bros. 3, and often featured the use of power-ups and other elements from the game. The only episode to not feature world-map footage is "Kootie Pie Rocks". Although Nintendo modified the character designs from the Mario franchise and flipped the shirt and overall colors of Mario and Luigi's, DIC decided to keep the character designs from its predecessor, but beginning with "Princess Toadstool for President", Mario's hair color is changed to brown while Luigi's hair stays black.

Super Mario World:

The animated series featured the same voice actors who had performed in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3. However, unlike its two predecessors, to keep in line with the game its based on, Toad is completely absent in this series (he was absent in the Super Mario Worldgame), and Yoshi appears in his place, alongside an exclusive character not featured in the games called Oogtar, a clumsy caveboy. The character designs from the last two cartoons are retained, but with minor details. Episodes mainly focused on the Mario Bros. dealing with schemes by King Koopa, and made use of new elements introduced by the video game within the story, though with involvement of the "real world" reduced to mere references for the series.

The Legend of Zelda:

Each episode of The Legend of Zelda follows the adventures of the hero Link and Princess Zelda as they defend the kingdom of Hyrule from an evil wizard named Ganon, who somehow came into possession of the Triforce of Power (we hear in one episode that he "stole it fair and square"). Most episodes consist of Ganon (or his minions) either attempting to capture the Triforce of Wisdom from Zelda, kidnap Zelda, or otherwise conquer Hyrule. Curiously, the Triforce of Courage is never seen or even mentioned in the series. In some episodes, Link and Zelda are assisted and accompanied by a fairy-princess, Spryte.

Captain N Gamemaster:

At the outset of the first episode the hero of the series, Kevin Keene, a teenager from Northridge, Los Angeles, California, and his dog Duke are taken to another universe known as Videoland when they are sucked into a vortex called the Ultimate Warp Zone that formed in his television.

In order to fulfill an ancient prophecy, Kevin is destined to become the hero "Captain N: The Game Master" and save Videoland from evil forces led by Mother Brain from the floating world/fortress called Metroid. By the time Kevin arrives on the scene, Mother Brain has almost succeeded in capturing the Palace of Power and conquering all Videoland. Kevin and Duke appear suddenly on the other side of the Ultimate Warp Zone before the N Team, which consists of Princess Lana (the acting ruler of Videoland as the first episode explains the absence of her father the King), Simon Belmont, Mega Man, and Kid Icarus, none of whom show any confidence in Kevin's ability in the beginning. However, after Lana is kidnapped by the enemy shortly after Kevin's arrival, the reluctant group puts their differences aside to go on a rescue mission where Kevin eventually gains the others' confidence. During season 2, Game Boy (a human-sized supercomputer shaped like the console) joins the N Team.
